Bangor is an extensive grazing property, running merino sheep for superfine wool production, along with cattle and prime lambs for meat.  Along with the family who work here, Bangor has one full time employee Glenn McGinniss, and a number of contractors, such as the team of shearers and wool handlers here four times a year for shearing.

Tasmanian Superfine Wool
Bangor runs a flock of 5000 superfine merino sheep, which produce some of the world's finest, softest and brightest wool. This fibre eventually ends up in high quality fabric used for premium suiting, next-to-skin wear and outdoor wear.

The extensive areas of native pastures at Bangor are ideal for growing this type of wool. They provide even nutrition year-round, which in turn allows the wool fibre to grow evenly and strongly. Native plants covering the soil also reduce dust and dirt contamination of the fleece, ensuring wool remains bright and lustrous.

Merino Stud
Bangor's merino sheep have been selected for generations to produce this high quality fibre, and in the past, rams were sourced from some of Tasmania's best studs. Now, Bangor has its own superfine merino stud, and we are constantly striving to improve the quality of our wool and sheep. This is achieved in two ways. Firstly semen is sourced from the very best rams across Australia to use in our Artificial Insemination programme. And secondly, all our breeding selection decisions are based on a combination of careful measurements and pedigree information to give an accurate assessment of the genetic merit of each animal, combined with thorough visual appraisal of each animal.

Our flock currently produces 16.5 micron wool, of superior style suited to the Italian market.

Beef and Lamb
Bangor also runs a 250 head cow beef herd and a 1500 head prime lamb flock. These animals graze the well fertilised introduced pastures to produce high quality meat destined for both domestic and export markets.
